Alright, so I’ve been sitting on a pretty good chunk of silver in my IRA, probably around $180k now with how the market’s been moving. Based out of Jacksonville, FL, and like a lot of military contractors, I'm pretty security-minded. Been with my current IRA custodian for about three years, and honestly, they've been just... fine. Nothing terrible, but nothing that inspires a ton of confidence either. I swear their customer service reps sometimes sound like they’re reading from a script, and getting a straight answer feels like pulling teeth.
I'm primarily holding American Silver Eagles and some Canadian Maples, all physical, stored in a pretty nondescript depository they picked out. The fees aren't outrageous, but they're not exactly low either, and I feel like I'm not getting much "extra" for my money. I'm starting to get that itch, you know? That feeling that maybe I could be doing better, especially with the portfolio size I'm at. I want to make sure my assets are truly secure and that if I ever need to liquidate a portion, it's not going to be a bureaucratic nightmare.
Has anyone here in Florida, or even just anyone with a similar portfolio size, had particularly good experiences with a Gold/Silver IRA custodian? I'm really looking for transparency, solid security protocols, and perhaps a more personalized touch. Are there any red flags I should be looking out for that maybe I've overlooked with my current provider? I'm willing to pay a fair price for peace of mind, but I also don't want to get gouged.
I’ve seen some names thrown around like Equity Trust and Strata Trust, but what are the real-world experiences like? Any specific questions I should be asking potential new custodians? I’m thinking about setting up a few calls next week, so any input would be super helpful. Just trying to ensure my retirement silver is as safe as it can be, especially with everything going on in the world right now.
