    The 3-step rollover process explained

Been seeing a lot of talk lately about silver, which got me thinking about my own journey. Started stacking silver about 15 years ago, right after the kids were grown and I finally had some disposable income that wasn't going to college funds or new cars. Initially, it was just a few Eagles here and there, mostly because I liked the look of them. Never really thought of it as a serious investment until I started delving deeper into global economics after retiring from the Navy and moving back to Honolulu.

My portfolio is pretty decent these days, somewhere in the $750k range, and a good chunk of that, probably 15%, is in physical silver – mostly 1oz coins, some 10oz bars. My strategy has always been to treat it as a hedge against the kind of systemic shocks I’ve seen ripple through the Pacific rim during my career. When you’ve been out in the middle of nowhere watching supply chains wobble, the idea of having something tangible that isn't reliant on a digital ledger or a government's printing press becomes pretty compelling. It’s not about getting rich overnight, it’s about preserving purchasing power when the unexpected happens.

I know some folks on here go for huge bars or industrial silver, but for me, the smaller denominations feel more flexible. Easier to liquidate if I ever needed to, without drawing too much attention. Plus, living in Hawaii, storage is a bit of a premium, so having something more manageable makes sense. I’ve slowly been dollar-cost averaging into it, buying a bit each month, sometimes more if there’s a dip. Not looking to time the market, just accumulate.

Anyone else out there feel like silver is a no-brainer for long-term wealth preservation, especially with all the geopolitical weirdness brewing? Or am I being too conservative with my allocation? Always interested to hear other perspectives from fellow stackers on how they view silver's role in their portfolio, particularly as a Gold IRA investor.

Hey, cool post! I'm curious, after 15 years, what's your take on holding Eagles vs. other government-minted coins or even generic silver? Have you noticed any significant differences in premiums or liquidity when you've sold anything?

Totally get this! My gold journey started similarly. Always wanted to invest in precious metals but life just kept happening. Once the mortgage was paid off and the kids were out of the house, I finally felt like I had the wiggle room to start a small Gold IRA. It's such a different feeling, holding something tangible versus just watching numbers on a screen.

That's awesome you've been stacking for so long! It's definitely a marathon, not a sprint. While I totally get the appeal of silver (who doesn't love shiny rocks?), I've always leaned more into gold for my long-term strategy. The historical stability and denser value per ounce just feel a bit more reassuring for true wealth preservation, especially when we're talking about a significant chunk of a portfolio. But hey, to each their own, and glad it's working out for you!
