Been seeing a lot of posts lately about silver stacking, and it got me thinking about my own journey. I started messing around with silver about 15 years ago, before I really had any serious capital to deploy. Bought a bunch of Eagles and Maples from a local shop here in Aspen – just the usual stuff. Now, with a portfolio north of 5M, my strategy's obviously evolved a bit. I still like physical, but I'm definitely looking at things from a broader perspective these days.

My current allocation for precious metals is around 15% of my total portfolio, with about 30% of that being silver. I'm primarily focused on numismatic coins – high-grade specimens that have both intrinsic metal value and collector premium. I'm also heavily into mining stocks, especially some of the junior miners with promising exploration results. The leverage you get in an uptrend with a good mining stock can be insane compared to just holding the physical. I’ve seen some 10x returns on well-chosen plays, and that’s just not happening with a stack of generic rounds. I’m thinking about adding some silver ETFs too for a bit more liquidity, but I'm still weighing the counterparty risk there.

For those of you just starting out, or even those with a decent stack, how are you diversifying within your silver holdings? Are you sticking purely to bullion, or are you venturing into numismatics or mining stocks? I’m always open to new ideas, especially from folks who’ve been in the game for a while. What are some of your favorite lesser-known silver plays?

Totally get this. I started my own precious metals journey in a similar way, mostly silver rounds and a few Eagles when I was first starting out. Always had that thought in the back of my mind about gold though, especially as things got a bit more serious with my investments. Good post, man.

Hey, that's a cool backstory! When you mentioned buying Eagles and Maples from a local shop in Aspen, were those purchases directly contributing to an IRA at that time, or were you just accumulating personal holdings then?

Totally get the appeal of silver, especially for stacking over the long term. And those Eagles and Maples are classics, no doubt. But I've been wondering if sometimes we get a bit too fixated on the purity aspect with silver, and maybe overlook some of the other industrial demand drivers. Like, sure, it's a precious metal, but its application in tech and green energy could be a bigger story down the line than just its "shininess" for investment. Just a thought.

Hey, cool to hear about your experience! It's definitely interesting to see how people's approaches evolve over time. For anyone else looking into diversifying beyond just physical, a good resource to check out is the US Mint's American Eagle program page. It has a lot of good info on the different types of Eagles and current releases if you're thinking about adding to your stack or exploring other options beyond just silver.

Totally agree with this. Silver's been my go-to for a while now too. My earliest buys were basically just whatever junk silver I could get my hands on at coin shows back in the day, like late 90s. Still have some of those old dimes and quarters. Good to see other folks in it for the long haul.
