Been seeing a lot of posts lately about silver stacking, and it got me thinking about my own journey. I started messing around with silver about 15 years ago, before I really had any serious capital to deploy. Bought a bunch of Eagles and Maples from a local shop here in Aspen – just the usual stuff. Now, with a portfolio north of 5M, my strategy's obviously evolved a bit. I still like physical, but I'm definitely looking at things from a broader perspective these days.
My current allocation for precious metals is around 15% of my total portfolio, with about 30% of that being silver. I'm primarily focused on numismatic coins – high-grade specimens that have both intrinsic metal value and collector premium. I'm also heavily into mining stocks, especially some of the junior miners with promising exploration results. The leverage you get in an uptrend with a good mining stock can be insane compared to just holding the physical. I’ve seen some 10x returns on well-chosen plays, and that’s just not happening with a stack of generic rounds. I’m thinking about adding some silver ETFs too for a bit more liquidity, but I'm still weighing the counterparty risk there.
For those of you just starting out, or even those with a decent stack, how are you diversifying within your silver holdings? Are you sticking purely to bullion, or are you venturing into numismatics or mining stocks? I’m always open to new ideas, especially from folks who’ve been in the game for a while. What are some of your favorite lesser-known silver plays?
