Silver coins as part of an IRA rollover - tax thoughts?

Thinking about doing an IRA rollover and stocking up on some silver coins for part of it. I’ve currently got about $200k in an old 401k that’s just sitting there from a previous job, and with the way things are looking, I'm itching to get some of that into something more tangible. I’ve always been a fan of actual assets you can hold, not just numbers on a screen. Out here on the farm in Louisville, we’re practical people, and gold/silver just makes sense to me as a safety net.
My main question is around the tax implications. I understand the general idea of a direct rollover meaning no immediate taxes, but what about the types of silver I can actually include? I'm looking at things like American Silver Eagles or Canadian Silver Maple Leafs, standard stuff. Are these generally treated the same way as gold bullion for tax purposes within a self-directed IRA? I’m envisioning having a chunk of my portfolio in these coins, held securely, rather than just paper assets.
I’m also wondering about future distributions. Let's say in 15-20 years, I start taking distributions. If I decide to take them in physical silver, how is that valued for tax purposes at that point? Is it the spot price on the day it's distributed, or is there some other accounting method? This isn't just about avoiding taxes now, but understanding the long-term game. I’ve owned this horse farm for years, and I’m always thinking about future planning, not just quick gains.
Anyone here gone through a similar IRA rollover specifically with silver coins? Any pitfalls or surprises I should be aware of on the tax side? I’ve talked to a couple of companies, but I always value real-world experience from people who have actually done it. It’s a good chunk of change for my family, so I want to make sure I'm doing this right.
