Just wanted to share my recent experience rolling over part of my old 401k into a Gold IRA, especially for anyone else considering it. I had about $350k sitting in a pretty vanilla 401k from a previous job, just rotting away in mutual funds. With all the buzz about inflation and the market feeling… weird… I started looking into tangible assets. My financial advisor here in SLC (who’s pretty awesome, btw, handles a lot of clients with gold IRAs) really helped me understand the process and the benefits of diversifying with physical gold.
The actual rollover was a bit of a headache, not gonna lie. It involved a lot of paperwork coordinating between the old 401k custodian and the new Gold IRA custodian. Had a couple of anxiety-inducing phone calls making sure everything was tracked correctly and the funds didn't end up in some black hole. It took roughly three weeks from start to finish, which felt like an eternity, especially with a chunky sum like that. But honestly, having that peace of mind now, knowing a portion of my retirement is in something tangible, feels incredible. It's a different kind of security.
I ended up allocating about 20% of that 401k to the Gold IRA, which felt like a good balance for now. I'm bullish on gold long-term, especially with the current global instability and the Fed doing its thing. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme, but more of a wealth preservation play for me. Anyone else go through a similar rollover recently? What was your experience like? And for those who have had gold IRAs for a while, any unexpected benefits or challenges you’ve encountered?
