Rolled over part of my 401k to a Gold IRA - feeling pretty good about it (mostly)

Just finished up the process of rolling over a chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA, and wanted to share my experience. I've been a government employee here in Albuquerque for like, 15 years now, and while the pension is nice, I wanted to diversify my retirement savings a bit. With all the talk lately about inflation and the economy, it just felt like the right move to protect some of my capital. I ended up moving about $60K out of a total $200K I had in a dormant 401k from a previous job history, so not my primary.
The process itself was... okay. Not as scary as I thought it would be, but definitely required some hand-holding. I went with a firm that specialized in Gold IRAs specifically, and the representative walked me through all the paperwork. The biggest thing was understanding the direct rollover versus indirect rollover, and making sure I didn't trigger any taxes or penalties. Seriously, that part had me stressed out – the thought of accidentally messing up and owing a bunch of money to Uncle Sam was not appealing.
The actual transfer took a little over three weeks from start to finish. Watching the market lately, I'm glad I finally pulled the trigger. My main motivation throughout this whole thing is really supplementing my pension down the line, given I'm probably looking at another 10-15 years before retirement. I'm hoping this Gold IRA acts as a nice hedge against any major downturns. Has anyone else made a similar move recently? What were your key takeaways?
I'm now thinking about whether to add some silver to the mix down the line, maybe actual silver coins like Eagles. My current stack is all gold bars and coins, but the idea of holding some physical silver is starting to appeal to me too. Any thoughts or experiences with that, particularly within an IRA?
