Finally pulled the trigger and rolled over a significant chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA. Been sitting on about $380k in an old employer's plan for too long, just letting it flounder. With all the instability lately, especially in the markets, I just couldn't stomach leaving it all exposed. My company's in the bourbon game, and let me tell you, we appreciate things that stand the test of time, that hold their value through generations. Gold always felt like that to me, a true legacy asset.
The rollover process itself was surprisingly straightforward. I picked a reputable custodian after doing a significant amount of research – spent a few evenings after the kids were asleep digging through reviews and comparing fees. Their team handled most of the heavy lifting with the old 401k administrator, which was a huge relief. Honestly, that was my biggest fear, getting bogged down in paperwork and endless phone calls. From initiation to physical gold being secured in the vault, it was about three weeks. Feeling a lot better about having nearly half a million dollars not tied directly to the whims of the stock market right now, especially with how wild things are.
Now, I'm starting to think about diversifying within precious metals. The company I went with also offers platinum for IRAs. I know gold is the traditional play, but has anyone here ventured into platinum? How do you view its long-term potential compared to gold? I'm in Lexington, so I’m always thinking about future value and what makes a solid foundation for wealth, much like a good aged whiskey. Any thoughts on platinum's role in a precious metals IRA would be greatly appreciated.
