Rebalancing my portfolio - curious about others' thoughts on timing for metals
- •I’ve been pretty heavy into metals for the last 5 years, ever since I left my bank manager gig here in Portland.
- •Saw too much behind the curtain to trust everything in equities alone, you know?
- •My current allocation is about 18% in physical gold and silver through my IRA, and the rest is a pretty standard mix of ETFs and some real estate.
Okay, so I'm looking at rebalancing my portfolio, which is sitting around $380k right now, and I'm wondering if anyone else is thinking about their gold and silver allocation. I’ve been pretty heavy into metals for the last 5 years, ever since I left my bank manager gig here in Portland. Saw too much behind the curtain to trust everything in equities alone, you know?
My current allocation is about 18% in physical gold and silver through my IRA, and the rest is a pretty standard mix of ETFs and some real estate. The gains on the metals have been decent, especially in the last year, and I'm feeling that itch to maybe trim a little off the top to reallocate into some other growth areas. I’m not talking about dumping it all, not by a long shot – I’m a firm believer in the long-term hedge metals provide. But at what point do you consider taking some profits, especially with the current market volatility being what it is?
I was actually just playing around with that "Silver vs Stocks" tool on Gold IRA Blueprint (https://silvervsstocks.goldirablueprint.com/?period=10Y) and it really highlights how silver has performed against the S&P over the last decade. It's a useful gut check when you're trying to decide if your personal allocation is still making sense. For me, it kind of reinforced my conviction, but also made me wonder if I should be targeting an even higher percentage in silver now. It's a tricky balance.
Anyone else in a similar boat, contemplating rebalancing their metal holdings? What metrics or personal thresholds do you use to decide when it's time to adjust? I’m leaning towards holding strong for now but definitely want to hear some other perspectives on strategic allocation.
