Question about diversifying my precious metals IRA - why I added silver to my Gold IRA

I've been a long-time lurker here, mostly absorbing information, but I wanted to throw something out there for discussion. I've had a significant portion of my retirement portfolio in a Gold IRA for a few years now – we're talking about half a mil invested, maybe a bit more depending on market fluctuations. My main driver has always been wealth preservation, especially with the way the market has been acting lately and the general economic uncertainty.

As a lawyer in Philly, I spend a lot of time thinking about long-term stability and mitigating risk. My initial advisor was very bullish on gold, and for good reason, I think. It’s the ultimate safe haven. However, after doing some deeper dives over the last six months, I started looking into diversifying within the precious metals space itself. I kept encountering strong arguments for silver, especially its industrial uses as well as its traditional role as a monetary metal.

So, a few months ago, I decided to pull the trigger and reallocate a portion of my existing Gold IRA holdings into silver. It wasn't a huge amount, maybe about 15-20% of the total metals value, but enough to feel like a meaningful diversification. The thought process was that silver often has a higher beta than gold, meaning it can see more significant swings, both up and down, but it also seems undervalued relative to gold historically. I’m not chasing quick gains here, but if the world continues its trajectory towards more industrial electrification and technological advancement, silver’s demand in those sectors seems solid.

I'd love to hear if others in a similar position (focused on wealth preservation, maybe with a portfolio in the mid-six figures) have considered or actually done this. What were your reasons? Did you find it complicated to execute? And for those who are purely gold bugs, what are your counterarguments against adding silver to an already gold-heavy IRA?
