Okay, so I've been sitting on this Platinum IRA for a couple of years now and honestly, the performance has been... fine. Not blowing my socks off, but it's held its own. I originally diversified into it because I heard good things about platinum's industrial demand long-term, figuring it’d be a decent hedge against inflation too. My portfolio is around the $180k mark right now, and the platinum is about 15% of that. The rest is a pretty standard mix of index funds, some individual stocks, and a bit of gold in a separate IRA.
My concern is that with all the talk about potential recession, and what feels like a somewhat shaky market overall, I'm wondering if it's smart to rebalance out of some of the platinum now. I'm an insurance agent here in Omaha, and I'm seeing a lot of folks tightening their belts, which makes me think industrial demand might take a hit. Platinum has been pretty volatile lately, and honestly, a bit of that volatility makes me nervous when I'm looking at my retirement funds. I'm not trying to time the market perfectly, but I also don't want to be staring at a significant dip if things go south.
Has anyone else rebalanced their precious metals IRAs recently? Especially on the platinum side? I’m thinking of scaling back to maybe 10% or even 8% of my total portfolio, and moving that capital into something a bit more stable, maybe some more dividend-paying stocks or even just parking it in a high-yield savings account for a bit. My wife thinks I'm overthinking it, but I'm trying to be proactive. What are your thoughts on platinum's outlook in the next 12-18 months? Is now a good time to trim, or should I just hold steady?
Any insights or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thanks, folks!
