Okay, so I've been doing a ton of research lately into diversifying my retirement with precious metals, specifically platinum. I'm a doctor here in Boston, and while I have a pretty healthy portfolio – somewhere in the neighborhood of $750k – I wouldn't call myself a whale. My gold holdings are already pretty solid and I'm looking to get into platinum, but it seems like most of the resources out there are geared towards folks dropping seven figures, or conversely, tiny amounts that barely cover the fees. It's a bit frustrating trying to find a good fit for someone in my position. Has anyone else found themselves in this weird middle ground?

I’m looking to allocate around $50k-$75k into platinum. I’ve called a few of the big names – Augusta, Birch Gold, Regal – and honestly, some of the sales pitches felt a little… intense? Like they really want me to liquidate everything and go all-in, which just isn't my strategy. I'm trying to be strategic and integrate this as a hedge, not make a speculative gamble. I've also checked out some local financial advisors, but many of them seem to push paper assets exclusively, or have very limited experience with physical platinum in an IRA. It feels like a niche within a niche.

My main concerns are finding a company with transparent fees (setup, storage, and annual maintenance), a good selection of IRA-approved platinum coins/bars, and excellent customer service that isn't just focused on hard selling. I also want to make sure their custodians are reputable. It's not a huge portion of my total portfolio, but it's still a significant amount of money to me, and I want to feel confident in my choices. For other "smaller" (by industry standards, at least) investors out there, what companies did you end up going with for platinum? Any hidden gems or serious red flags I should be aware of?

Totally get this! I've been looking into platinum for my IRA too, for similar reasons. My portfolio is probably a bit smaller than yours, but I'm also finding that finding a broker who really "gets" it for platinum, especially without a massive buy-in, is tough. It's not as straightforward as gold or silver, that's for sure. Good luck with your search!

Totally get where you're coming from! I actually went through a similar process last year when I was looking to add some palladium. My portfolio isn't quite as hefty as yours, but I definitely felt like some brokers were just trying to upsell me on something bigger than I needed. Ended up finding a smaller, more boutique firm that really took the time to understand my goals instead of just pushing product. Good luck with your search!

Interesting! You mentioned your existing gold holdings. Are you thinking of converting some of that into platinum, or adding platinum on top of your current gold allocation?

Interesting take on platinum! While it definitely has its industrial uses, I've always been a bit wary of it for retirement portfolios, especially when compared to gold or silver. The market for platinum is considerably smaller, and that can lead to some pretty wild price swings that might not be ideal for a long-term, stable investment like an IRA. Have you looked into the liquidity aspect much? Just a thought!

Hey, interesting post! It's smart to think about diversification with platinum, especially with that portfolio size. One thing I found super helpful when I was looking into precious metals IRAs was to check the annual storage and insurance fees *very carefully*. Sometimes those can really eat into your returns, especially with smaller allocations.

You might want to check out this search for "platinum IRA storage fees comparison" – it often brings up some good articles that break down what different custodians charge. Good luck with your search!
