I've been thinking a lot about my Platinum IRA lately, specifically the custodian side of things. I've got a decent chunk of my retirement savings in it, probably around $75K right now, and as someone who owns a jewelry store here in Providence, I'm pretty familiar with the ins and outs of PMs. We deal with platinum regularly, so I definitely felt good about diversifying into it for my IRA.

My current custodian is JM Bullion. They've been... fine, I suppose. No major disasters, which is always a plus, but I also haven't been blown away by their service. Communication can sometimes be a bit slow, and trying to get a clear answer on some of their fee structures felt like pulling teeth a few times. It's not enough to make me jump ship immediately, but it's got me wondering if there are better options out there, especially as my portfolio grows.

I'm looking for a custodian that's really responsive, has transparent fees, and frankly, understands the nuances of physical metals beyond just pushing paperwork. Are there any other Platinum IRA investors here who have dealt with JM Bullion for their platinum holdings? What were your experiences like? Or have any of you had truly exceptional custodians for your Platinum IRAs that you'd recommend? I'm particularly interested if anyone has experience with custodians who are more hands-on or offer better personal service.

Finding a custodian who truly gets it and makes managing these assets smooth and stress-free would be amazing. Any insights or recommendations would be hugely appreciated!

Hey, I hear you on this! I'm in a pretty similar boat, though with gold and silver. Had a pretty rough go with a metals dealer who also offered custodian services a few years back. They were great up front, but then a few months in, trying to get actual statements or even just a clear answer on fees felt like pulling teeth. Ended up moving everything to a different, more transparent custodian. Definitely worth keeping an eye on, especially with that amount of money involved.

Hey, interesting post! When you say "custodian side of things," are you specifically referring to the fees they charge, or something else entirely with their services?

Interesting, I guess I'm a bit different. While I appreciate the sentiment about specialized custodians, I've always leaned towards the bigger, more established players, even for my alternative investments. My thinking is, if something goes sideways, they have deeper pockets and more regulatory scrutiny. Always figured that was safer than a niche company, even if they claim to be platinum specialists. Just my two cents, looking forward to hearing what others think.
