Just hit the 5-year mark with my Platinum IRA, and honestly, it’s been a pretty solid run. I remember back in 2019, I was a bit nervous pulling the trigger. I’m a nurse here in Seattle, and while I’ve always been good at saving, the stock market volatility always gave me major heartburn when I thought about retirement. My traditional 401k is fine, but I wanted something that felt more… secure? Stability was the name of the game for me, especially heading into my fifties. So, after a ton of research, I decided to diversify and throw about $75k into a Platinum IRA.
I wasn't expecting crazy overnight gains, and I definitely didn't get them, but what I did get was peace of mind. Watching the news and seeing the market flip-flop, it was a huge relief knowing a significant chunk of my retirement wasn't directly exposed to all that. The value has steadily climbed, nothing dramatic, but definitely a healthy increase over those five years. I check in every now and then, and every time, I'm just glad I made the move. It’s certainly a less stressful way to invest for the long haul.
Now that I'm over five years in, I’m starting to think more seriously about what happens when I actually retire. Specifically, those Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs). It’s still a few years off for me, but I stumbled across this RMD Calculator on Gold IRA Blueprint and it's actually been super helpful in starting to visualize what those distributions might look like. It's one of those things you don't really think about until it gets closer, but better to plan ahead, right?
Curious to hear from others who have held their Platinum IRAs for a while. What has your experience been like, especially coming up on RMD age? Any tips for navigating the distribution process or things you wish you knew earlier?
