I've been going back and forth on platinum coins for my IRA, specifically the American Platinum Eagle vs. the Platinum Buffalo. My late husband was so meticulous with his investments, and I'm really trying my best to manage what he built for us, which includes about $75,000 in a Gold IRA that I'm now looking to diversify into platinum. He always said, "diversify, diversify!"
I'm based in Raleigh, and honestly, the thought of trying to navigate all these options sometimes feels a bit overwhelming. From what I've been reading, the Platinum Eagles seem to have a more established secondary market and are recognized globally. That feels like a safer bet to me, especially since I'm trying to protect this legacy.
On the other hand, the Platinum Buffalo design is just so beautiful! I know it's not strictly about aesthetics, but there's something to be said for holding something that looks so magnificent. My husband would have loved the design. My main hesitation with the Buffalos is that they're newer and seem to be produced in much lower quantities. Does that make them harder to sell later if I needed to?
Has anyone here faced this same decision for their precious metals IRA? Are there any hidden advantages or disadvantages to one over the other that I haven't considered? I'm really leaning towards the Eagles for the liquidity and recognition, but a part of me is drawn to the unique beauty of the Buffalos. Any insights, especially from those with experience buying or selling platinum for an IRA, would be incredibly helpful.
