My wife's gold foresight - best move we ever made

Honestly contemplating how much grief (and probably a good chunk of cash) my wife saved us with her insistence on a Gold IRA. I’m a real estate guy here in Miami, and for years, pretty much everything I earned went right back into property or some other stock market play. Diversification was a word I knew, but gold always felt… dusty, you know? Like something grandad would invest in. My portfolio was sitting around the $180k mark last year, mostly real estate holdings and a few tech stocks I thought were bulletproof.
Then last spring, my wife started really digging into economic forecasts and inflation. She came to me with all these articles about the dollar's stability, global uncertainties, and how precious metals historically perform during downturns. I humored her at first, but she was persistent. We're both trying to build a solid retirement nest egg, and she made a compelling case about protecting what we've accumulated. After a few weeks of her patiently explaining things, showing me charts, and even finding a few reputable Gold IRA custodians, I finally caved and we rolled over about $50k from an old 401k into a Gold IRA.
Man, am I glad I listened. Fast forward to now, and with all the volatility everywhere else, that gold is providing some serious peace of mind. Those tech stocks I loved? Not looking so hot. While my real estate still has great long-term potential, the immediate market is definitely... interesting. The stability of that gold allocation has been a genuine psychological relief, knowing a portion of our retirement isn't swinging wildly. It really feels like a smart move to safeguard our future, especially with the way the economy feels like it's shifting daily.
Anyone else have a significant other who was the driving force behind their Gold IRA? Did you have similar initial reservations? I'm genuinely curious if this reluctant convert experience is common.
