My Silver Stacking: More Than Just Shiny Rocks (and why I love it)
- •Been a heavy metals guy for decades, even back when I was still pushing paper on Wall Street.
- •Got a good chunk of my portfolio, probably sitting around 25-30% dedicated to physical, and a large portion of that's silver.
- •Started really stacking in '08 when things started looking dicey – wanted something tangible that wouldn't evaporate.
Been a heavy metals guy for decades, even back when I was still pushing paper on Wall Street. Got a good chunk of my portfolio, probably sitting around 25-30% dedicated to physical, and a large portion of that's silver. Started really stacking in '08 when things started looking dicey – wanted something tangible that wouldn't evaporate. My wife thought I was crazy, but after Black Monday back in '87, you learn to trust your gut (and a good balance sheet). We're talking well over a million in just silver, mostly 100oz bars and some nice Eagles.
My strategy is pretty straightforward: buy dips, hold forever. Well, "forever" meaning until I'm either pushing up daisies or there's a genuine reason to liquidate a portion. I don't trade it, don't try to time the market with it. It’s my ultimate insurance policy. Living here in NYC, space is a premium, so my storage solution took some creative thinking, but let's just say a good safe and a reliable, undisclosed location outside the city are key. Also got a good chunk of platinum, too — that's a whole different ballgame and a smaller, but equally valuable, part of the strategy.
The emotional aspect of holding physical metals is huge for me. There's a peace of mind that comes from knowing you've got something that's not subject to the whims of algorithms or political grandstanding. It's real, it's weighty, and it’s been money for millennia. Anyone else here feel that same reassurance? Or am I just an old-school dinosaur clinging to precious metals in a digital age?
