Hey everyone, Michelle from Richmond here! Hope you're all having a great week. I wanted to drop in and talk about something that's probably obvious from my post title: my absolute love for Silver Eagles. Seriously, they dominate my precious metals IRA like nothing else. I'd say a solid 60% of my ~400k IRA is currently in these beautiful coins. I started investing in precious metals about 12 years ago, and for the first few years, I was dabbling in all sorts of things – some gold, a bit of platinum, even some obscure foreign silver. But I kept coming back to the Eagles. There's just something so comforting about their liquidity and universal recognition.

I remember a few years back, when silver hit that sweet spot around $18-$20 an ounce, I went a little crazy. I managed to acquire a few hundred coins in one go, locking in what I considered to be fantastic prices. My local coin dealer (shout out to "Richmond Gold & Silver" – great folks!) must have thought I was preparing for the apocalypse, but hey, I was just following my research! I really appreciate the straightforwardness of the American Silver Eagle. No fancy designs or complicated premiums to decipher (mostly), just pure, unadulterated silver, backed by the U.S. government. As a university professor, I tend to get quite analytical with my investments, and the simplicity of Eagles really appeals to that side of me.

I'm always curious to hear how others structure their silver holdings. Do any of you also favor Eagles so heavily, or do you diversify more with other types of silver coins or even bars? I occasionally think about adding some Canadian Maples or even some rounds to get a slightly better premium, but then I always circle back to the Eagles for their sheer marketability. Is that just me being risk-averse, or is it a smart long-term play for an IRA?

And speaking of premiums, what are your thoughts on them lately? I’ve noticed they've been a bit elevated compared to historical averages. Are you holding off on new buys because of it, or are you still stacking regardless? Let me know your thoughts and experiences – I'm always looking to learn from fellow investors!

This thread on "My Silver Eagles Obsession - Anyone Else?" has been incredibly helpful. I’ve been primarily focused on a Gold IRA for the past 7 years, but the discussion here about the liquidity and premium of ASEs has me seriously reconsidering. I'm going to look into adding a few rolls to my personal stack ASAP – thanks for the nudge!

This post on "My Silver Eagles Obsession" truly resonated. Seeing your stack photos and reading about your acquisition strategy for 2023 has been incredibly helpful. I've only just started diversifying into physical silver myself this year—primarily 1oz Eagles and Britannias—and your insights have certainly encouraged me to accelerate my accumulation schedule. Thanks for sharing both the passion and the practical advice!

It's fascinating to hear about your Silver Eagle passion, and while I certainly appreciate the beauty and history of those coins, my own focus with precious metals has been a bit different. As a Gold IRA investor for the past 12 years, I've primarily concentrated on acquiring larger, more liquid gold bullion, specifically 1-ounce and 10-ounce bars, held securely within my retirement account. My thinking has always been about leveraging gold's role as a long-term wealth preserver and inflation hedge, using it as a foundational component of my portfolio rather than for numismatic or smaller collectible silver purchases.

This thread, "My Silver Eagles Obsession - Anyone Else?", is *exactly* what I needed today! I've been feeling a bit isolated in my fervent belief in precious metals, especially after converting a significant portion of my 401k to a Gold IRA with Augusta Precious Metals back in 2021. Seeing others with such a strong conviction in tangible assets, specifically Silver Eagles – I personally picked up 100oz this past March – is incredibly reassuring. Thank you all for sharing your passion and making me feel a part of a larger community!

That's a fascinating perspective on your stack, given the current market volatility for *Silver Eagles*. I diversified into gold with a Gold IRA back in 2020 after seeing the Fed’s balance sheet explode, putting a significant 70k portion of my retirement savings into allocated physical. Have you considered rotating any of your immediate silver holdings into gold to further hedge against inflation, and what percentage of your portfolio currently consists of precious metals?

Glad to see others as passionate about their physical precious metals! On Silver Eagles, my advice is to diversify the mint years, especially if you're holding a substantial amount. I noticed a significant uptick in value on my 2008 and 2011 Eagles during the last price run, far beyond the common dates. It's not just about the melt value; rarity plays a bigger role than most realize with these.

@Janet Cook That's a great point about diversification, especially with the premium on Silver Eagles right now. I've been saying for a while that the underlying value for physical silver, while strong long-term, is getting overshadowed by collector demand for certain coins. It’s why my own Gold IRA, established in late 2019, is almost exclusively allocated to recognizable 1 oz gold coins – better liquidity, and you avoid some of the collector-driven volatility. For anyone else pondering their precious metals strategy, I highly recommend taking the Gold IRA Quiz; it truly helps match you with the right strategy for your individual situation, especially when weighing collectible vs. investment-grade bullion.

@Margaret Chen – My Silver Eagles Obsession - Anyone Else? That thread title really resonates! I went all-in on a gold IRA back in 2020, moving a substantial portion of my 401k into precious metals. The peace of mind knowing my retirement savings are diversified and protected with those crucial tax advantages has been invaluable.

@Maria Campbell You hit the nail on the head regarding premiums influencing the "true" underlying value. While I agree the *precious metal* itself is robust, for my Gold IRA holdings acquired back in 2018-2019, I specifically opted for more common, lower-premium gold bullion coins like American Gold Eagles instead of proof sets or specialized numismatics. The goal was always maximum metal exposure for long-term wealth preservation, rather than collectibility. This distinction is crucial when we talk about *investment* value versus *collector* value within this "Silver Eagles Obsession" thread.

Absolutely! It's not just Silver Eagles for me, though they're certainly a cornerstone. I started stacking silver back in '08 when the financial crisis hit, and the demand for physical assets just exploded. I remember picking up 50 of those beautiful Eagles back then for under $20 apiece – a decision I've never regretted, especially watching them climb over the years. My Gold IRA holdings are substantial now, but I still make sure to add a couple of tubes of Eagles every quarter; it’s a tangible, reassuring hedge against the endless fiat printing and a fantastic way to diversify beyond paper.

Yes! My "obsession" began quite unexpectedly in 2011 after a particularly volatile dip in the market. I liquidated a good chunk of my tech stocks – about $75,000 worth – and diversified it into a Gold IRA, but not without also picking up a substantial amount of Silver Eagles. I remember buying 1,500 of them that spring, thinking they'd be a nice hedge, and watching their value appreciate steadily over the next few years was incredibly reassuring and, dare I say, a little addictive. Now, I have a dedicated safe deposit box solely for my Eagles, and I still pick up a tube or two every quarter.

I just wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for this thread, especially your post about **Silver Eagles**. As someone who diversified into a Gold IRA back in 2018 with a 70/30 gold-to-silver split, it's incredibly reassuring to hear about others' positive experiences with precious metals, particularly silver. The detailed breakdown of your strategy for acquiring 100 Eagles last year resonated deeply with my own investment philosophy – it’s a brilliant way to steady gains and hedge against inflation. Thank you for sharing your insights, it truly reinforces my confidence in my long-term holdings!

Absolutely! My Silver Eagle obsession started in '03 when I picked up 25 tubes at $6 an ounce. That was a game changer, diversified my portfolio nicely alongside my gold. I've found over the years that while gold anchors my retirement, Eagles are fantastic for those smaller, tangible gains. Don't forget to keep an eye on those premium dips!

Oh, Silver Eagles… They were my gateway drug into the precious metals world, truly. Back in '08, when the bottom fell out and my 401k looked like a deflated balloon, I poured a desperate $20,000 into them – mostly circulated, a few uncirculated proofs. It was a visceral fear, watching everything I’d worked for evaporate, but holding those heavy, shining coins, knowing they held tangible value, brought a surprising peace. That feeling, that tangible security, is what led me to diversify into a Gold IRA in 2012, and honestly, it’s been the calmest part of my portfolio ever since.

Frankly, when I see threads like "My Silver Eagles Obsession," I can't help but feel a little… underwhelmed perhaps? I’ve accumulated over 300 ounces of physical gold in my Gold IRA since 2018, meticulously focusing on allocated, segregated storage for true diversification against fiat currency erosion. While I appreciate the sentiment behind stacking silver, the *real* hedge against economic uncertainty and inflation, in my experience, has always been gold.
