Hey everyone, Michelle from Richmond here! Hope you're all having a great week. I wanted to drop in and talk about something that's probably obvious from my post title: my absolute love for Silver Eagles. Seriously, they dominate my precious metals IRA like nothing else. I'd say a solid 60% of my ~400k IRA is currently in these beautiful coins. I started investing in precious metals about 12 years ago, and for the first few years, I was dabbling in all sorts of things – some gold, a bit of platinum, even some obscure foreign silver. But I kept coming back to the Eagles. There's just something so comforting about their liquidity and universal recognition.
I remember a few years back, when silver hit that sweet spot around $18-$20 an ounce, I went a little crazy. I managed to acquire a few hundred coins in one go, locking in what I considered to be fantastic prices. My local coin dealer (shout out to "Richmond Gold & Silver" – great folks!) must have thought I was preparing for the apocalypse, but hey, I was just following my research! I really appreciate the straightforwardness of the American Silver Eagle. No fancy designs or complicated premiums to decipher (mostly), just pure, unadulterated silver, backed by the U.S. government. As a university professor, I tend to get quite analytical with my investments, and the simplicity of Eagles really appeals to that side of me.
I'm always curious to hear how others structure their silver holdings. Do any of you also favor Eagles so heavily, or do you diversify more with other types of silver coins or even bars? I occasionally think about adding some Canadian Maples or even some rounds to get a slightly better premium, but then I always circle back to the Eagles for their sheer marketability. Is that just me being risk-averse, or is it a smart long-term play for an IRA?
And speaking of premiums, what are your thoughts on them lately? I’ve noticed they've been a bit elevated compared to historical averages. Are you holding off on new buys because of it, or are you still stacking regardless? Let me know your thoughts and experiences – I'm always looking to learn from fellow investors!
