Just wanted to share a bit of my journey with precious metals, specifically my Platinum IRA. I started looking into this about ten years ago, right after I retired from the Navy and moved back home to San Diego. Had a decent chunk saved up from my service, probably around $300k at the time, and was looking for something beyond just stocks and bonds to really secure my future. The idea of inflation eating away at everything always kept me up at night, especially with a fixed retirement income.
To be honest, I was a bit of a skeptic at first. Everyone talks about gold, but platinum felt a little more niche, and I liked the industrial demand aspect of it. Decided to allocate about 10% of my retirement funds, roughly $30,000 back then, into a Platinum IRA. It felt like a responsible move, a hedge more than a get-rich-quick scheme. For the first few years, it mostly just sat there, doing its thing. I checked the prices occasionally, but didn't pay it too much mind.
Then came the last few years, and man, have things changed. Seeing the market volatility and just the general instability worldwide, having that platinum has been a real psychological anchor. My original $30k has grown significantly, and while I haven't done a full re-evaluation recently, it's definitely north of $50k now and holding strong. More importantly, it helps me sleep at night knowing a portion of my wealth isn't directly tied to the whims of the stock market. It's a huge relief, especially considering I want to make sure my family is taken care of.
Anyone else out there feel that same sense of security from their precious metals IRAs? Or did anyone else start out as a skeptic and then become a believer after seeing how things played out over the long term? Just curious to hear other perspectives on long-term precious metal holdings.
