My Platinum IRA experience with Augusta Precious Metals - Pretty solid, but a couple of thoughts
- •The onboarding process was surprisingly smooth.
- •My rep at Augusta was pretty knowledgeable, walked me through all the paperwork, and kept me updated on exactly what was happening.
- •I was a bit nervous about the whole direct rollover thing, but they made it painless.
Okay, so I finally took the plunge into a Platinum IRA with Augusta Precious Metals back in February, and figured I'd share my experience for anyone on the fence. I've been running my jewelry store here in Providence for the last 20 years, so I like to think I know a thing or two about precious metals, but setting up an IRA is a whole different ballgame. I ended up rolling over about $75k from an old 401k, mostly because I wanted some real tangible assets in there, especially with all the economic uncertainty.
The onboarding process was surprisingly smooth. My rep at Augusta was pretty knowledgeable, walked me through all the paperwork, and kept me updated on exactly what was happening. I was a bit nervous about the whole direct rollover thing, but they made it painless. The fees seemed reasonable enough compared to some of the other companies I looked into, and I appreciate that they were upfront about everything. I opted for primarily platinum eagles and a few bars – my thought process was that platinum has a lot of industrial demand that gold doesn't always have, and it still feels undervalued compared to its historical highs.
My only real "gripe" – and it's a minor one – is that I felt a tiny bit of pressure during the initial consultation to go with gold. I get it, gold is the classic, safe bet. But I had done my homework on platinum and really wanted to diversify that way. Eventually, my rep understood, and it wasn't a huge deal, but just something I noticed. The actual delivery to the depository was flawless, and I received all the documentation promptly.
So far, I'm happy with my decision. It feels good having that platinum safely tucked away, and knowing it's not subject to the same whims as the stock market. Has anyone else gone with platinum specifically for their IRA? What were your reasons? And for those with Augusta, any long-term thoughts on their service and fees?
