You guys, I am SO relieved right now I could cry. For months, I've been trying to explain to my husband why I wanted to diversify part of our retirement savings into a gold IRA. I've been reading up on it for like, the last eight months, ever since I started seeing some warning signs with the economy. He's always been a bit more conservative, sticking to the traditional stock market stuff our financial advisor always pushed. Our advisor is great, don't get me wrong, but he's just not really big on alternative investments.
I finally got him to sit down with me over the weekend. I pulled up some articles about the latest inflation numbers, showed him the precious metals section of our investment portfolio (which, let's be honest, was zero before this), and outlined how I thought putting about $75k of our existing IRA into physical gold would act as a hedge, especially with how volatile everything feels right now. I even talked about setting up the vault storage here in Colorado, which I thought would appeal to his practical side. He just kept saying things like, "It's not liquid enough," or "What about the storage fees?" I was starting to think I'd never convince him. It's not like we're super wealthy, every dollar counts for our small business here in Denver, so I understood his hesitation, but my gut was just screaming at me to do this.
Then, yesterday, he was talking to his buddy, Mark, who actually has a gold IRA. I guess Mark had just moved a significant chunk of his own retirement into gold a few months back. I don't know exactly what Mark said, but my husband came home looking thoughtful, and then, get this, he said, "Okay, let's explore this gold IRA. Mark said he felt a lot more secure since he made the switch." Finally! I've been doing all this research, showing him charts, explaining historical performance, and it takes his friend saying one thing for it to click. Men, am I right?
So now we're actually moving ahead! I'm feeling so much better about our retirement future. Has anyone else had to convince a skeptical spouse? What finally made them see the light? Any tips for someone just starting the transfer process? I'm looking at a few different providers and want to make sure I pick the right one.
