I've been a quiet lurker on this sub for a while, mostly just reading and trying to learn from all your experiences. But after this past week, I just had to share a little bit about my own journey. It’s been just over five years since I rolled over about $70,000 of my late husband’s 401k into a Gold IRA. At the time, it felt like such a huge, scary decision, especially with all the noise out there about precious metals not really doing much.
For a long time, honestly, it felt pretty stagnant. There were definitely moments I questioned if I’d made the right call for Charles’s legacy. He was always so meticulous with our finances, and I felt a heavy responsibility to protect what he worked so hard for. I live here in Raleigh, and sometimes it feels like everyone around me is just riding the stock market wave. It was hard to see those gains without feeling a twinge of regret.
But wow, what a difference a few months can make! I actually pulled up my statement earlier today and then went and looked at that "Silver vs Stocks" tool on goldirablueprint.com (the 10-year chart specifically, since I’m trying to get a long-term perspective). While my portfolio isn't purely silver, seeing how silver has trended against the S&P 500 over a decade really put things into perspective. My gold holdings have seen a really healthy uptick recently, and I’m finally feeling that sense of security and relief that I was hoping for when I made the initial move. It's not about getting rich quick, but about preserving purchasing power, and it feels like it's finally paying off.
It's such a comfort to know that a good portion of our retirement savings is shielded from some of the volatility we're seeing. Has anyone else felt this shift recently, especially those of you who’ve been holding for a few years? What are your thoughts on where things are headed for gold for the rest of 2024?
