Just closed out my 2nd gold IRA transfer with Augusta Precious Metals, and figured I'd drop a quick review for anyone on the fence. I'm usually pretty skeptical of anything that feels hyped, especially after years dealing with the banking industry, but I've gotta say, Augusta has been consistently solid. My first transfer was about $150k back in 2021, mostly to diversify out of what felt like an increasingly volatile stock market, and then another $100k just last month. Living in Portland, I see enough economic weirdness to make me want some tangible assets, you know?
My biggest concern initially was the fees and transparency, because let’s be real, a lot of these places can be pretty opaque. Augusta was upfront with everything from the start. Their team, particularly the account executive I worked with both times, was super patient answering all my questions about premium coins versus common bullion and the whole storage logistics. I really appreciate not being pressured into anything. As a former bank manager, I know a hard sell when I hear one, and it just wasn't there. It felt more educational than salesy, which was refreshing.
The process itself, from rolling over my old 401k to getting the metals securely stored, was smoother than I expected. They handle pretty much all the paperwork, which was a huge relief since I'm swamped with work and trying to keep up with my garden. I’ve heard horror stories about other companies dragging their feet or hidden costs popping up, but Augusta delivered exactly what they promised. It’s comforting knowing a significant chunk of my retirement is in physical gold and silver, shielded from the daily market craziness.
Anyone else here used Augusta? Or maybe another company you'd recommend? I'm always curious to hear what other folks with decent-sized portfolios are doing for diversification these days. What are your thoughts on silver's performance versus gold in the current climate? Thinking about adding a bit more silver next year.
