Been thinking a lot about the gold side of my portfolio recently, especially with all the talk about inflation and economic uncertainty. I've been in the casino industry here in Vegas for long enough to know a thing or two about risk management, and diversifying out of just paper assets feels more important than ever. I've got around $180,000 in my total portfolio right now, mostly in traditional stocks and a handful of real estate plays here in town.
I'm looking hard at a Gold IRA and trying to figure out the actual minimum investment required. I know some of these companies advertise different numbers, but I want to hear from people who've actually gone through the process. Is there a generally accepted floor that makes sense, or are some of these lower advertised minimums just a way to get you in the door before hitting you with a bunch of fees? I'm not looking to dump my whole portfolio into gold, but I'm thinking of allocating maybe $20k-$30k to start, just to get my feet wet and see how it performs compared to my other holdings.
My main concern isn't just the initial buy-in, but also the ongoing fees for storage and administration. What's a realistic expectation for these costs, especially for someone in my investment bracket? Are there specific companies that are more transparent or offer better value for smaller initial investments? Any horror stories or success stories specifically about minimums and managing costs would be super helpful. Trying to avoid any unnecessary surprises down the line.
