Just wondering about folks' Gold IRA custodian experiences?
- •Okay, so I’ve been kicking around the idea of consolidating my Gold IRA a bit, and it’s got me thinking about custodians.
- •I’ve had my current setup for about 10 years now, pretty much ever since I started getting into gold after the whole 2008 mess.

Okay, so I’ve been kicking around the idea of consolidating my Gold IRA a bit, and it’s got me thinking about custodians. I’ve had my current setup for about 10 years now, pretty much ever since I started getting into gold after the whole 2008 mess. I started with a modest chunk, about $50k back then, and after slowly adding over the years (and some good market performance for gold, thankfully!), it's sitting pretty nice now, just over $180k. Mostly American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples, all physical, of course.
My current custodian has been… fine. No major complaints, but also nothing that makes me go "wow." Fees are what they are, communication is okay, but I’ve often wondered if there’s a better experience out there. I'm based in Phoenix, and while I don't necessarily need a local branch, knowing there's a reputable company with good support is a big deal to me. Especially now that I’m fully retired from teaching, I want as much peace of mind as possible when it comes to my savings.
So, I’m curious, what have your experiences been like with different Gold IRA custodians? Has anyone had a particularly stellar experience they’d recommend, or any absolute nightmares to avoid? I'm not really looking to venture into silver much right now, though I do occasionally check out tools like "Silver vs Stocks" at https://silvervsstocks.goldirablueprint.com/?period=10Y just for general market information – it’s interesting to see how it stacks up over time. But for my precious metals IRA, it’s all gold for me.
Any insights, positive or negative, would be super helpful as I think this through. What kind of fees do you see, how's their customer service, anything about their storage facilities? Just trying to gather some real-world input.
