How long did your 401k to Gold IRA transfer actually

Just went through the process of rolling over a portion of my old 401(k) into a self-directed Gold IRA, and I'm curious to hear how everyone else's timelines compared. I had about a $75k chunk I wanted to move from an old employer's plan – I'm a school principal here in Little Rock, and honestly, the school board's financial literacy curriculum is... lacking. So I try to lead by example and diversify, especially with all the talk about inflation and economic uncertainty. Been teaching my students about different asset classes, and it felt right to put my money where my mouth is, even if it's just a sliver of my overall portfolio.
My custodian quoted me 2-3 weeks from start to finish for the direct rollover. I initiated everything about four weeks ago. The old 401(k) administrator seemed to take their sweet time processing the distribution request, which was probably the biggest bottleneck. They kept asking for "additional verification" even though everything was clearly laid out. It was a bit frustrating, constantly following up and feeling like I was doing their job for them. I even had to get my new Gold IRA custodian's rep on the phone with them at one point to clarify some details.
Eventually, the funds did hit my Gold IRA account, and the physical gold was purchased and allocated to the depository within a couple of days after that. So, all in all, it took closer to a month for the full cycle, from initial paperwork to seeing the gold allocated. That's a bit longer than I anticipated, but not terribly so. It just required more active management on my part than I thought it would. Has anyone else experienced similar delays, especially with the old 401k provider? Or was yours smooth as silk?
I'm really glad I did it though. It provides a nice sense of security knowing a portion of my retirement is in a tangible asset, especially with all the market volatility. Just wondering if my experience was typical or if I just got stuck with a particularly slow administrator for my old 401k. What were your timelines like for a direct rollover?
