Gold's been my rock through some wild market swings - finally pulled the trigger on a new ranch thanks to it.

Just wanted to share a recent win for anyone on the fence about gold, especially in an IRA. I've been a pretty aggressive investor for decades, mostly real estate development here in Aspen, but I always kept a significant chunk in physical metals. Started seriously getting into gold and silver back in the mid-2000s, setting up a Gold IRA around 2008 when everything felt like it was going to hell in a handbasket. Best decision I ever made for portfolio diversification.
I’ve watched my overall portfolio rollercoaster over the years, especially with the real estate market doing its thing. But that gold? It’s been my damn anchor. Through interest rate hikes, inflation scares, geopolitical instability – you name it – the precious metals holdings have consistently provided a strong, stable base. I'm talking about a portfolio that's comfortably over $5 million now, and a substantial part of that stability, and frankly, growth, has come directly from my gold and silver strategy. I always aimed for ~10-15% of my total net worth in metals, sometimes pushing it higher depending on the economic climate.
Fast forward to this past month: I’d been eyeing this incredible ranch property just outside of town for literally years. Owner finally decided to sell. While much of my liquid capital was tied up in current development projects, the substantial gains in my Gold IRA over the past 15+ years allowed me to liquidate a portion—tax-free, because of the IRA structure—and make a very comfortable offer. Closed on it last week! It feels incredibly satisfying to see that long-term, calculated move in precious metals directly translate into a tangible, lifestyle-changing asset. Has anyone else used their metals gains for a major personal purchase like this, rather than just reinvesting or hedging?
