I’ve been watching the news this week, and honestly, seeing gold break all-time highs again has my head spinning a little. It’s exciting, no doubt about that, especially after everything my husband and I put into building our retirement portfolio. We always believed in hard assets, and gold was a big part of that. Now that it’s hitting these numbers, I can’t help but wonder what this means for the rest of my precious metals.
My Gold IRA is looking pretty healthy at around the $65,000 mark right now, which is a significant chunk of what John and I worked so hard for. We started investing in gold and silver years ago, and I remember him saying, "Honey, this is our bedrock." After he passed, I've been meticulous about protecting every cent of it, especially with all the economic uncertainty out there. I’m based right here in Raleigh, and honestly, the local news always has me a little on edge about inflation.
The thing is, a good portion of our original precious metals allocation was in silver, specifically those American Silver Eagle coins we adored. I’ve probably got about $15,000-$20,000 worth of those tucked away, and while they've held their own, they haven't seen the same kind of skyrocketing performance as gold lately. I know silver usually tracks gold, but the divergence right now is making me think. Is this a sign that silver is due for a massive catch-up, or is gold just on its own trajectory?
Part of me is tempted to maybe rebalance a little, perhaps take some profits from the gold side and roll it into more silver, thinking it's undervalued. Or should I just hold what I have and let both metals do their thing? I'm trying to honor John’s memory by making smart, long-term decisions, and I'd really appreciate any thoughts from others who are navigating these new highs. What are your strategies looking like right now with gold so strong?
