Been seeing a lot of chatter lately about silver and figured it was time to share my own experience and get some thoughts from others here. I've been in on the Gold IRA game for a while now, probably close to 8 years, since the tourism business here in Savannah can be a wild ride with economic cycles. You learn to brace for impact, and precious metals just felt like the right move for stability.
My portfolio is sitting around the $180k mark, and it’s always been heavily gold-weighted, probably 85-90% gold, with a little bit of silver as a diversifier. The gold's done exactly what I needed it to, holding its value and acting as a fantastic hedge. But lately, I’ve been wondering if I should shift more of that allocation towards silver. I keep hearing about its industrial uses and how it’s still undervalued compared to gold. Is anyone else thinking about a more balanced 60/40 or even 50/50 split? What’s your reasoning?
I'm nearing that stage where I need to start seriously thinking about RMDs (Required Minimum Distributions) from my IRA. It's still a few years off, but I like to plan ahead, especially with these assets. I actually found this pretty handy RMD Calculator online that helps model out what those distributions might look like. It's been super useful for figuring out how much I might need to take out annually and how that affects my total holdings. If you haven't checked it out, it's worth a look. It’s got me thinking about how the long-term appreciation of silver compared to gold might impact those future withdrawals.
Right now, I'm leaning towards bumping my silver allocation up to around 20-25%. It still feels like a good balance without going all-in on something that can be a bit more volatile. I’m thinking of rebalancing over the next year or so, depending on market conditions. For those of you who have a higher silver allocation, have you seen significantly better returns, or do you find the volatility just isn’t worth the potential upside? Do you wish you had held more gold?
