Gold IRA for a smaller portfolio?

Okay, so I've been kicking around the idea of a Gold IRA for a while now, and with the economic rumblings these days, it feels like it's time to seriously look into it. I've got around $150k in my retirement portfolio that I'm looking to diversify, and I'm interested in moving a chunk of that into physical gold. Been in the casino industry here in Vegas for like 20 years, so I understand risk management in a big way – you always gotta have your hedges in place, especially with what's happening globally.
My main question is for those of you who started with a smaller portfolio, say in the $100k-$250k range. What Gold IRA companies did you find were genuinely good to work with? I'm seeing a lot of marketing out there, and frankly, I'm a bit overwhelmed. I'm looking for a company that isn't going to treat me like small potatoes just because I'm not rolling in millions. I want good customer service, transparent fees, and a straightforward process. I'm not looking to trade daily, just secure a portion of my retirement with something tangible.
I've seen names like Augusta Precious Metals, Birch Gold Group, and Goldco thrown around a lot, but is there a significant difference for someone at my portfolio level? Are some better suited for smaller initial investments without charging exorbitant fees? Also, what's been your experience with storage fees and overall ease of setting up the account and transferring funds? Any horror stories to avoid, or unexpected costs I should be aware of?
Really appreciate any insights you guys can offer. Trying to make a smart move here without getting taken for a ride. Thanks in advance!
