Gold breaking all-time highs - what now for my silver stack?

    Key Takeaways
    • Okay, so gold is absolutely ripping right now, hitting new ATHs pretty much daily.
    • It's awesome to see, especially considering how much of my retirement eggs are in that basket.
    • I've got a good chunk of my Gold IRA allocated, probably sitting around $300k of my total portfolio in physical gold and some silver too.

Okay, so gold is absolutely ripping right now, hitting new ATHs pretty much daily. It's awesome to see, especially considering how much of my retirement eggs are in that basket. I've got a good chunk of my Gold IRA allocated, probably sitting around $300k of my total portfolio in physical gold and some silver too. Seeing these moves just reinforces why I went this route after retiring from the Navy. Financial security is paramount for me, and after decades of service, watching my investments actually protect and grow my wealth feels good.

My question for the community, especially those of you with more experience in this precious metals game, is what are your thoughts on silver now? Gold's gone parabolic, but silver hasn't really caught up in the same way. I've got a decent stack of silver coins, mostly Eagles and Maples, that I've been accumulating over the past few years, probably 5-10k worth, mostly as a hedge against inflation and to diversify a bit from the gold. Part of me thinks silver is just playing catch-up and its time is coming, but then I wonder if I should be divesting some of that into more gold while it's still hot, or perhaps even into some mining stocks for leverage.

I'm based here in San Diego, and honestly, seeing the cost of living just skyrocket, having physical assets that aren't tied to the dollar makes me sleep a lot better at night. I really value the tangible aspect of precious metals. So, for those of you who have been through these kinds of gold runs before, what's your playbook for silver in this environment? Do you hold, sell, or buy more? Are we looking at a significant re-rating for silver coming down the pipe, or is gold just going to keep leading the charge?

Any insights or personal strategies would be super helpful.

Dude, I'm right there with you. My Gold IRA is looking real pretty these days. I've been eyeing my silver stack too and wondering if it's finally silver's turn to catch up, or if I should just dump some of it into gold while the going is good. Tough call!

Congrats on the gold gains! Always a good feeling to see those numbers climb. You mentioned a significant portion of your retirement is in physical gold and "s". Are we talking about silver there, or something else?

Yeah, gold's definitely having its moment, and that's great for your portfolio! But I wouldn't necessarily jump to ditching the silver just because gold is leading the charge right now. Historically, silver tends to lag a bit on the way up, but then often has even bigger percentage gains once it catches fire. Don't underestimate its potential as a more industrial metal either, which could give it a different kind of boost down the line. Maybe hold onto that stack and see how things play out.

That's great to hear about your gold doing so well! It's definitely exciting when you see those ATHs. For your silver, it might be worth looking into the gold-to-silver ratio. Historically, when gold hits highs, silver often plays catch-up shortly after, or vice-versa.

There are some good resources out there that track historical ratios and can give you a feel for when silver might be undervalued relative to gold. This site has a pretty clear chart that goes back a while. Might help you decide if it's a hold, buy more, or even a rebalancing opportunity depending on your strategy!

I rolled over about $80k last year. Honestly the hardest part was just picking which metals to hold. Still second-guessing myself.

I was pretty skeptical about another gold IRA forum but the tools here on GIRAB actually surprised me — the calculator alone saved me hours of spreadsheet work.

This mirrors what I've been seeing too. The macro environment right now is making a strong case for physical metals.

Ngl I came here expecting the usual affiliate spam but the discussions are actually decent. Way better info than what I was getting from my old advisor.

Interesting take. I've heard the opposite from a few people though — would love to see some actual numbers on this.
