Finally rolled over some of my 401k into gold - feeling

Thought I’d share my recent move because it’s been on my mind for a while and I finally pulled the trigger. After years of having my 401k sitting mostly in mutual funds, I decided to diversify a chunk into a Gold IRA. I didn't move everything, maybe about 30% of my total portfolio, which for me was just shy of $80k. I’ve heard plenty of opinions both ways, but with everything going on these days, I just felt better having some physical assets outside of the traditional stock market.
My financial advisor (who's usually pretty conservative) understood where I was coming from. He warned me about volatility, of course, but also acknowledged the long-term historical stability of gold. Honestly, the process was smoother than I expected. Found a reputable custodian based out of Texas that specialized in precious metals IRAs and they guided me through the rollover from my existing 401k. Didn’t have to deal with any penalties or taxes since it was a direct transfer. Took about three weeks from start to finish to get everything set up and the gold purchased.
Being a horse farm owner here outside Louisville, I’m used to tangible assets – land, livestock, equipment. This feels a bit like bringing that same practical approach to my retirement savings. It's not about trying to get rich quick with gold, it's about preserving wealth and having a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. The thought of having some actual gold bullion tucked away gives me a different kind of peace of mind than just looking at numbers on a screen.
Anyone else here made a similar move recently? How much of your retirement have you allocated to precious metals? Curious to hear if others are feeling the same way about wanting more tangible assets in their portfolio right now.
