Finally retired thanks to my silver stack, what a ride

Just closed on my dream place up in Westchester and had to share. Remember all those years people were calling me crazy for dumping so much into precious metals, especially silver? Well, who's laughing now? The old Wall Street colleagues, God bless all 18 of them, always had some shiny new derivative to pitch, but my gut always told me to stick with what's real. Took a good chunk of my IRA and rolled it into physical silver back when everyone thought it was a relic. Best decision of my life, hands down.
I started really loading up on silver coins in the late 90s, early 2000s, when prices were… well, let’s just say significantly different. It wasn't always a smooth road, obviously. There were plenty of times I questioned my sanity, especially during those long, flat periods. My wife, bless her pragmatic heart, had her moments of doubt too. But I always remembered my grandfather’s stories from the Depression – the guy traded a silver dollar for a week of groceries for his family. That kind of tangible value, especially when the paper gets shaky, always resonated with me.
Fast forward to now, after finally pulling the plug on the city last year, and liquidating a good portion of that stack to secure this new chapter has been nothing short of surreal. It wasn't just about the dollar figures, though those are certainly nice. It's the peace of mind, the feeling of having actually built something tangible instead of just playing with numbers on a screen. Funny how things come full circle. Used to stare at screens all day, and now I just stare at the Hudson from my new porch. What strategies did you all use for diversification outside of your precious metals, looking to keep some chips in the game?
Always felt a bit like an underdog on the trading floor, holding onto my silver certificates (metaphorically speaking) while everyone else chased the latest tech bubble. But seeing that payout, knowing I can live comfortably for the rest of my days, it's incredibly validating. Any other old-timers out there who saw similar long-term payoffs from their metal positions? Or am I just the lucky one?
