Finally pulled the trigger on a silver allocation for the IRA
- •Been sitting on this one for a while, but finally moved a pretty sizable chunk of my self-directed IRA into silver.
- •Always been a gold guy, as most of you know from my previous posts.

Been sitting on this one for a while, but finally moved a pretty sizable chunk of my self-directed IRA into silver. Always been a gold guy, as most of you know from my previous posts. My traditional IRA is still probably 80% physical gold, but I decided it was time to diversify a bit within the precious metals space. The old firm had me so heavily in the S&P for decades, even into retirement you crave that diversification.
I ended up going for mostly American Silver Eagles and some Canadian Silver Maples. Figured sticking with recognized government mints was the safest play for liquidity and also peace of mind. The premium on ASEs stings a little, but the security and ease of future sale make it a worthwhile trade-off in my book. I'm thinking about 15-20% of the metals portfolio will be silver now. That leaves plenty of room for my gold holdings, which I'm frankly more emotionally attached to after all these years. Gotta love those 1oz Krugerrands I’ve been stacking since the 80s.
Anyone else here made a similar move recently? What are your thoughts on current silver premiums? I know some folks swear by generic rounds, but for an IRA, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. The physical security of storing it isn't an issue since it's with my custodian down in Delaware, but the mental security of knowing exactly what I have is important.
