Finally diversified my 401k into gold AND I'm sleeping

I know a lot of you out there are probably in the same boat I was. Watching the news, seeing the economy do... whatever it's doing these days, and just feeling that knot in your stomach about your retirement. My husband and I are farmers here in rural Missouri, and while we believe in hard work and good harvests, the stock market always felt like a crop you just couldn't predict. For years, our measly 401k (sitting around $75k) just sat there, doing its thing, but I always felt like it was vulnerable to forces completely out of our control.
That's why I finally took the plunge and moved a good chunk of it into a Gold IRA. I’d been reading up on it for months – felt like I was getting an honorary finance degree just from all the articles! It wasn't a snap decision, that's for sure. I researched different companies, worried about fees, and just generally fretted over making the "right" choice. But honestly, the idea of having something tangible backing our savings just spoke to me. A good harvest is tangible, a strong piece of equipment is tangible. A ticker symbol on a screen? Not so much.
The process itself was a lot smoother than I expected. I worked with a company that helped me roll over about $50,000 of our old 401k without any tax penalties, which was a huge relief. They handled all the paperwork with our old administrator, and now I have actual gold allocated to our retirement account. It's not like I have bars under my bed (though sometimes I joke about it with the cows!), but knowing it's there, in a secure vault, just brings a sense of calm I haven't had with our retirement savings before.
Is anyone else out there feeling this same relief after diversifying into precious metals? Or considering it and have questions? I'm curious what other folks' experiences have been like, especially those of you who might be closer to retirement than us. We’re still a ways off, but every little bit of security helps me breathe easier as we get older.
