Feeling the squeeze on paper assets, anyone else looking
- •The rest of my assets are in the usual suspects – some bonds, blue-chip stocks, some real estate here in Houston.
- •I’ve always been a believer in its stability, it served me well through some rough patches when I was still working.
- •I know gold isn't a growth asset, but right now, I'm thinking more about wealth preservation for my grandkids than making another million.
Okay, so I’ve been watching my portfolio shift around quite a bit these last few months, and honestly, the thought of rebalancing is starting to give me heartburn. I retired from ExxonMobil almost a decade ago and was lucky enough to roll over a decent chunk into an IRA, eventually diversifying a good portion of that into a Gold IRA. We're talking probably a good $800k-$1M of physical gold at this point, sitting there nice and shiny, immune to the daily madness of the stock market.
The rest of my assets are in the usual suspects – some bonds, blue-chip stocks, some real estate here in Houston. But seeing the tech sector jump and dive, and bonds not doing what bonds are "supposed" to do in this environment, it's making me seriously consider upping my gold allocation even further. I’ve always been a believer in its stability, it served me well through some rough patches when I was still working. My financial advisor keeps nudging me to stay diversified, but diversified sometimes feels like it means watching half your portfolio get chipped away while the other half struggles to tread water.
I know gold isn't a growth asset, but right now, I'm thinking more about wealth preservation for my grandkids than making another million. With the inflation numbers stubbornly high and global instability not exactly calming down, seems like a good time to make sure those physical assets are robust. Anyone else in a similar boat, contemplating moving more of their "paper" gains (or losses, let's be real) into precious metals? Or am I just letting my old-school energy sector mentality get the best of me?
Got me wondering if I should trim some of these stocks that have had a nice run and just lock in the stability. It’s hard to ignore that bright yellow gleam when everything else feels so… unpredictable. What are your thoughts on rebalancing towards a heavier gold position in this current climate?
