Fed rate decision and my portfolio - feeling a bit antsy

Another rate hike, another sigh from yours truly. Honestly, this sustained pressure from the Fed is making me feel a bit stretched. My tourism business here in Savannah has seen its share of ups and downs over the last decade and a half – hurricanes, recessions, pandemics – you name it. We've always come out the other side, but these higher borrowing costs just add another layer of complexity. It makes you really think about where you've got your money parked.
My portfolio is sitting around the $180k mark right now, and a decent chunk of that is in my Platinum IRA. I made the move to metals a few years back, looking for that buffer against inflation and market volatility, and it’s served me well through some choppy waters. But with things feeling so uncertain, I'm always questioning if I've allocated enough, or if I should be considering other metals beyond just platinum. I’ve heard arguments for palladium and even silver gaining traction with industrial demand, but platinum has always felt like the solid choice for me.
Has anyone else noticed their metal investments behaving differently with these consistent rate increases? I know the conventional wisdom says rates up, gold/platinum down, but it feels like there’s more to it than that with all the geopolitical stuff bubbling up too. I'm trying to stay ahead of the curve, not just react to the headlines. I even took that Gold IRA Quiz recently just to see if there were any blind spots in my thinking. It's a quick way to get your head around the basics if you're new to this space, and it actually sparked a few ideas for me.
What are your go-to strategies for protecting your portfolio when the Fed keeps tightening? Are you diversifying more within precious metals, or looking at other asset classes altogether? I’m all ears for practical advice and different perspectives. We're all trying to navigate this landscape the best we can.
