    The 3-step rollover process explained

Okay, so I'm finally looking to diversify a chunk of my retirement savings into a Platinum IRA. I’ve been sitting on the sidelines for a bit, but with inflation doing what it’s doing, I feel like now's the time. As an accountant here in Atlanta, I’ve crunched the numbers countless times on the tax benefits of a Gold IRA (and now Platinum), so I’m all good there. My current portfolio is sitting around the $180k mark, and I’m looking to allocate about $20-25k to this platinum move.

My big hang-up right now is the Eagles vs. Buffalos debate. I know, I know, it’s a classic, but for platinum, it feels a little different. I’m leaning towards the Platinum American Eagles because of the perceived liquidity and government backing, but is that really a significant factor when we're talking platinum? Does the collector value aspect of the Eagles actually play a role in a retirement account? Or is the purity argument for the Platinum Buffalos stronger for long-term holding? I’m thinking 10+ years at least.

For those of you who've gone the Platinum IRA route, what did you choose and why? Did you consider the premium differences much? I'm trying to be really strategic here, especially since I'm trying to optimize every dollar given my tax situation. I even used the Tax Calculator on Gold IRA Blueprint to project some scenarios, and it really brought home how important initial costs and potential for appreciation are.

Any and all insights on these two platinum options would be super helpful. Are there other platinum products I should even be considering for an IRA that I’m overlooking? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I was in a super similar boat a few months ago! Also an accountant, though out in Denver, and spent way too much time staring at spreadsheets trying to decide between Eagles and Buffalos for my Platinum IRA. Ended up going with Eagles, mostly for the fractional options and a slightly lower premium at the time. No regrets so far, but honestly, both are solid choices.

Hey, cool you're diving into this! Really interesting choice on the Platinum IRA. I'm just curious, why platinum specifically over gold or silver for your IRA? Is there something in the tax implications you mentioned that makes it more appealing for your situation as an accountant?

Interesting debate, but I'm a bit surprised by the focus purely on Eagles vs. Buffalos. While both are solid choices, are you absolutely set on platinum specifically? Given the current market and the inflation you mentioned, it might be worth at least briefly considering gold or silver as well, or even a mix, before locking into just one type of platinum coin. Just a thought to broaden the scope a little!

Hey, that's a good problem to have! Both Eagles and Buffalos are solid choices for a Platinum IRA. One thing that often gets overlooked is the premium you pay over spot price. It can vary quite a bit between different dealers and even for the same coin at different times.

I'd recommend checking out APMEX or SD Bullion to compare real-time premiums on both. Sometimes the difference can be enough to sway your decision, especially on larger purchases.
