Okay, folks, I've been wrestling with this for a while and figured it's time to crowdsource some wisdom. I'm looking to add another chunk to my Gold IRA, probably around $50k-$75k this quarter, and I'm stuck on American Gold Eagles vs. Gold Buffalos. I'm a manufacturing exec here in Cleveland, been building up my hard asset portfolio for a few years now – currently sitting around $350k in the Gold IRA alone, plus other investments. I just really value tangible assets, especially with all the economic noise lately.
My last big purchase was mostly Eagles, and I like the fractional options and the recognizable design. There's something reassuring about the 22k durability too. But then I look at the Buffalos – that pure .9999 fine gold is mighty tempting. From a fundamental perspective, shouldn't pure gold always be better? Not sure it makes a huge difference in an IRA long-term, but it's always in the back of my mind. What do you all generally prefer for your own IRAs and why?
The premium game is always a factor, too. Sometimes I see Buffalos with slightly lower premiums, sometimes Eagles. It seems to float. Anyone got a good pulse on this historically or what's looking better currently? I'm not flipping these next week, obviously, but I also don't want to overpay unnecessarily. I'm mainly focused on long-term wealth preservation and hedging against inflation – the usual Gold IRA stuff.
By the way, as I'm thinking about future allocations and retirement timelines, I stumbled upon this Retirement Planner tool over at Gold IRA Blueprint. It's actually pretty handy for mapping out how much gold you might want in specific phases of retirement. Might be useful for some of you who are juggling similar considerations. But back to the main point: Eagles vs. Buffalos – where do you land and what's driving your decision?
