My first thought was, reprocessing old tailings? This is such a smart move, especially with gold prices where they are. I've been watching some of these junior miners try to make a go of it with new discoveries, and it's always a big gamble, a lot of upfront capital, and a long wait for production. But taking existing infrastructure and just re-optimizing the process for previously uneconomical ore? That's a different beast entirely. It reminds me a bit of some of the old energy plays I've looked at, where enhanced oil recovery techniques can squeeze more out of a mature field. Less risk, potentially faster payback. For my own portfolio, I'm always looking for those kinds of efficient plays that don't rely on crazy speculative leaps. This $180M in Canadian gold from reprocessing 3M tonnes could be a nice boost for Atlantic Mining.
What are your thoughts on this kind of "reboot" strategy in the mining sector? Does anyone here have any experience with companies that excel at this kind of operation? I'm semi-retired now, and while I have a good base of dividend stocks, I'm always looking for those opportunistic plays that can help with the grandkids' college funds a few years down the line. Curious to hear if anyone thinks this could be a sign of a broader trend, especially with the push for more sustainable mining practices too.
