Hey everyone,
Just read this article about Dolly Varden Silver Corp. shareholders overwhelmingly approving the merger with Contango ORE (full article here). Honestly, this isn't a huge surprise to me, especially given the current climate for junior miners. I've been eyeing the silver sector for a while now, looking for some more stability and growth potential beyond my current gold holdings, which are mostly for retirement. My portfolio's already a bit heavy on the precious metals, but I'm always looking for strategic plays, especially with the kids' college funds looming in a few years!
I feel like consolidation in this space is going to be a recurring theme. The smaller players often struggle with financing and operational hurdles, and a merger like this can bring economies of scale and better access to capital. I mean, who doesn't want a more robust, diversified entity in today's market? From what I've seen in my own investing history, these types of moves, when done right, can really strengthen the combined company and unlock value for shareholders in the long run. I'm definitely keeping an eye on how this plays out. It makes me wonder if I should be divesting some of my smaller, more speculative mining shares and focusing on companies that are either already consolidated or in a position to be acquired.
What are your thoughts on this merger? Do you see a lot more of these coming down the pike in the precious metals sector? I'd love to hear some other perspectives, especially if anyone here has direct experience with either of these companies or similar situations. Always good to get the community's take.
