Hey everyone, just read this article about Meridian raising $34M in their London market debut. Pretty interesting stuff, especially with their Cabacal project in Brazil. For me, whenever I see a junior miner successfully pulling in that kind of capital, it’s a good sign. It shows confidence from institutional investors, which is something I always look for. I've been burned before with smaller outfits that run out of steam before they even get close to production, so seeing Meridian securing this funding early on makes them stand out a bit more.
My own portfolio is a bit heavy on tech right now, so I've been looking to diversify into some raw materials, particularly copper given the whole EV push and infrastructure spending. Gold is always a good hedge, too, especially with all the talk about inflation potentially eroding my retirement savings. Meridian’s combination of both copper and gold exploration in Brazil, a generally mining-friendly jurisdiction, definitely piqued my interest. The $34M will obviously go a long way in de-risking Cabacal and progressing it towards becoming a "cornerstone asset" as the article mentions. I'm not looking to jump in immediately, but I'll certainly be keeping them on my watchlist.
What are your thoughts on this? Anyone else tracking Meridian or other junior miners in the copper/gold space? Always good to hear what other long-term investors are seeing out there, especially those with more boots-on-the-ground knowledge of the mining sector. Let me know what you think!
