Hey everyone, just read this article on Mining.com about Teck's CEO, Jonathan Price, highlighting Canada's mining bottlenecks (link here). It really struck a chord with me, especially the part about permitting timelines and the lack of shared infrastructure. As someone who's been investing in the natural resources sector for a couple of decades now, I've seen firsthand how these kinds of delays can absolutely cripple projects and scare off investment.
Price's point about Canada potentially losing the "next wave of critical minerals investment" really resonates. My portfolio is heavily weighted in materials and energy, and frankly, I'm always looking for strong, stable opportunities. But when you see these kinds of bureaucratic hurdles, it makes you pause. I'm thinking about my kids' future and their ability to get good jobs in this country, and a thriving mining sector is a big part of that. These critical minerals are so essential for everything from EVs to renewable energy, and Canada has a huge opportunity if we can get our act together.
What do you all think? Has anyone else experienced these delays impacting their investments or project timelines? Is this something the government is even capable of addressing effectively, or are we just going to keep seeing these big projects get bogged down? Curious to hear your thoughts!
