Hey everyone, just read this article about British Columbia designating Seabridge Gold's KSM project as a provincial priority. You can check it out here: https://www.streetwisereports.com/article/2026/05/01/bc-names-massive-ksm-gold-project-as-a-province-priority.html
This is pretty big news, especially for those of us with some exposure to precious metals or even just Canadian mining in general. "World's largest undeveloped gold project by resources" is a serious statement, and getting provincial priority status can really grease the wheels on development, cutting through a lot of the red tape and potential delays that often plague these massive projects. I've been watching Seabridge (TSX:SEA) for a while, and while resource estimates are great, getting a project actually going is where the real value is unlocked. This move by BC certainly helps to de-risk some of the execution.
My portfolio leans a bit heavier into established dividend payers these days, especially with retirement approaching, but I've always kept a small allocation to more speculative, growth-oriented plays, and gold exploration/development companies often fit that bill. Knowing that the government is actively supporting this could mean a quicker path to production and potentially a significant re-rating for SEA if they execute well. It makes me wonder if I should consider upping my exposure slightly or if this is already priced in to some extent. What are your thoughts on this? Does this news change your perspective on Seabridge Gold or the BC mining sector as a whole?
