Alright, so I’ve been digging into the annual fees for my Platinum IRA, and frankly, I'm starting to feel like I'm leaving money on the table. When I first rolled over the bulk of my tech company exit into precious metals about four years back, the custodian fees felt like a minor line item. I was so focused on getting out of equities and into something more stable for my retirement – especially with the market looking a bit shaky – that I probably didn't negotiate as hard on the storage and admin side as I should have. Now, looking at my statements, it’s adding up. My current custodian is charging a flat annual fee of $300, plus an additional 0.15% of the total asset value. With a portfolio that's hovering around $2.5 million these days, that extra percentage is a hefty chunk of change that could be working for me instead of against me.
I know some companies offer tiered pricing, or even a completely flat fee regardless of asset value once you hit a certain threshold. I’m in Dublin, Ohio, and my current setup is entirely remote, but I’m open to exploring other options. Are any of you guys finding better deals out there, especially for platinum? I’ve seen some ads for custodians claiming fees as low as $180 flat, but I'm always wary of hidden charges or less-than-stellar service at that price point. My platinum holdings are substantial, and I need a custodian with a solid track record and robust security, not just the cheapest option.
What are your experiences? What are you currently paying in custodian fees for your Platinum IRAs, and with whom? Are there particular custodians known for being more competitive with higher asset values? Any red flags to watch out for? I’m seriously considering shopping around and potentially moving my assets if I can find a significantly better structure without compromising on security or service. Thoughts?
