Okay, so I'm completely new to this whole precious metals IRA thing. I'm a teacher in Columbus, and I've finally gotten my emergency fund looking good, so I decided to diversify a small chunk of my retirement savings. Pulled the trigger on a Platinum IRA a few weeks ago and just funded it with about $15k. Feeling pretty good about that move, but now I'm looking at the fee structure closer and wondering if I messed up on custodian choice.
My current custodian is charging me an annual fee of $250. Is that pretty standard for a portfolio my size? I know some companies waive fees for the first year or for larger accounts, but $15k isn't exactly "large," ya know? I'm trying to be smart about every dollar since every bit counts when you're on a teacher's salary. I saw one place advertising fees as low as $180, but I don't know if that's legit or if there are hidden costs I'd be missing.
What have you all seen others pay for custodian fees, especially for Platinum IRAs? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth the hassle of potentially rolling over or if this is just the going rate. Any advice for a newbie investor in Ohio?
