Okay, so inflation is really starting to get under my skin. Every trip to the grocery store or gas station just emphasizes how much purchasing power is eroding. I've had a Gold IRA for a few years now, and honestly, it's been one of the smartest financial moves I've made, especially with everything going on. I started off with about $120k in it back in 2020, and while I wouldn't say it's made me rich, it's definitely held its ground way better than some of my other investments during this crazy period.
As an accountant here in Atlanta, I really appreciate the tax benefits too – that goes without saying. I'm looking at diverting another chunk of my 401k, maybe another $30k-$50k, into my Gold IRA to further fortify against these inflationary pressures. My main goal isn't necessarily massive growth, but really preserving capital and making sure my retirement savings don’t get eaten alive. I'm mid-career, have a young family, so stability and long-term protection are key right now.
My current Gold IRA mix is mostly gold American Eagles and Canadian Maple Leafs, with some proof coins for a bit of diversification. I'm wondering if I should stick to that, or if anyone has experience with other types of gold or even silver that have performed exceptionally well as inflation hedges? I know I'm on a silver coin subreddit, but most of my IRA is in gold, so I'm open to all suggestions.
What are your strategies for protecting your portfolio from inflation right now? Are you leaning more into physical metals, or are there other asset classes you're finding effective? Any wisdom from those who've navigated similar economic climates would be awesome.
