Been seeing a lot of talk here lately about Birch Gold, mostly from people with pretty sizable portfolios. My situation is a bit different, and I wanted to share my experience for anyone else out there who might be in a similar boat. I've been in the dairy business my whole life here in Wisconsin, seen enough milk prices go up and down to know you can't put all your eggs in one basket. Decided a few years back to diversify some of my retirement savings into precious metals through an IRA.
I started with Birch Gold about two years ago, right when I was really starting to feel uneasy about inflation eating away at my savings. My initial transfer was around $75,000, which felt like a massive chunk of change to me, especially stepping into something I didn't know much about. I'd read their ads and heard some good things, but I was definitely nervous about the minimums and whether I'd get the same attention as someone dropping half a million. Well, I can honestly say they treated me pretty well. My specialist was helpful, walked me through the whole process of rolling over my old 401k from my days at the creamery, and never made me feel like my account was too small to matter. The paperwork was a bit of a slog, as these things always are, but it got done.
My main concern going in was the fees, and I made sure to ask about all of them upfront. They were transparent, which I appreciated. Storage fees are what they are, and it wasn't a surprise. The markup on the metals seemed reasonable enough for the convenience, though I'm no expert in the spot prices every given minute. I've primarily stuck with gold coins, mostly American Gold Eagles, as I tried to keep it simple. Thankfully, the value has held up since then, which definitely helps me sleep better at night. No major issues with statements or accessing information, it’s all pretty straightforward online.
So, for anyone out there wondering if Birch Gold is worth it if you're not a high roller, I'd say based on my experience, it can be. Did I get white glove service? Probably not like someone with a million bucks, but I got solid, reliable service, and that's what I needed. Has anyone else here used them with a smaller account, say under $100k, and have a similar or different experience? Always curious to hear other folks' perspectives.
