Just wanted to share my experience with Augusta Precious Metals, specifically regarding some silver coins I bought to roll into my Gold IRA. I’m an insurance agent here in Omaha, and I've always been pretty conservative with my retirement planning – got a mix of 401k, some real estate, and for the last few years, a decent chunk (around $150k out of my $250k total portfolio) in precious metals. I went with Augusta a few years back because their reps seemed really knowledgeable, and honestly, they had some good reviews.
My main move with them was getting a good amount of American Silver Eagles and Canadian Silver Maple Leafs. The process itself was pretty straightforward. The reps weren't pushy at all, which I appreciated, and they walked me through everything from setting up the self-directed IRA to funding it and selecting the actual coins. The paperwork was a bit of a slog, but that’s par for the course with any investment like this, I guess. Everything was handled securely, and the coins arrived at the depository (Delaware Depository, I think?) without a hitch.
The pricing seemed fair at the time, but I'm always wondering if I could have gotten a slightly better deal. That's the one thing about precious metals, it's hard to feel absolutely certain you're getting the best possible price when there's a markup involved. My main concern was diversifying and having some tangible assets outside of just paper, and Augusta definitely delivered on that front for the silver coins. I haven't tried to sell anything back yet, so I can't speak to that side of the transaction.
Anyone else have experience with Augusta for silver? Specifically, how do you feel about their buyback program or the premiums they charge on things like Silver Eagles compared to other dealers? My portfolio is mostly gold, but I do like having some silver in there too for better liquidity and a lower price point. Just trying to make sure I’m making the smartest moves as I get closer to retirement age.
