Just wanted to share my initial thoughts on Augusta Precious Metals after opening a Gold IRA with them a few months back. I'm a government employee here in Albuquerque, mid-50s, so I'm really focused on beefing up my retirement portfolio beyond the pension. After doing a LOT of research into different providers, especially with all the economic uncertainty, APM seemed like a solid choice for a precious metals dealer who also handles the IRA side. I ended up converting about $75k from an old 401k into a Gold IRA with them.
The whole process was surprisingly smooth, I gotta say. I was pretty nervous about moving that kind of money around, especially with the rollover paperwork and making sure it was all handled correctly for tax purposes. Their team was really hands-on, walked me through every step, and answered all my silly beginner questions without making me feel dumb. They even helped me coordinate with the custodian. I actually ended up chatting with one of their reps for a good hour or so just on general economic outlook, which was super helpful – not just a sales pitch. It felt like they genuinely wanted me to understand what I was getting into.
My big purchase was mostly gold bullion, with a smaller amount of silver. I was impressed with their selection and the clarity on pricing. So far, the value has been pretty stable, which is exactly what I was hoping for to balance out some of my more volatile investments. It’s certainly a relief to have some tangible assets that aren't tied directly to the stock market's daily rollercoaster.
My main question for others who've been with them longer: How has your long-term experience been with Augusta Precious Metals? Any surprises, either good or bad, that I should be aware of as I continue to build this part of my portfolio? I'm thinking about adding another chunk later this year, potentially another $20-30k depending on market conditions, and just want to make sure I'm still on the right track. Any advice for someone building a pension supplement with precious metals?
