Figured I'd finally chime in on my experience with Augusta Precious Metals, especially since I've seen a few questions pop up about them lately. I rolled over a good chunk of my 401k into a Platinum IRA with them a little over three years ago – we’re talking around $350,000 of the total $800k portfolio I’ve built up over the years. I’m a retiree from the auto industry here in Detroit, and honestly, I’ve been stacking gold in one form or another since the early 2000s, so this wasn’t my first rodeo with precious metals, just my first big move into a self-directed IRA.
The onboarding process was surprisingly smooth. I worked with a guy named Michael (don't remember his last name, apologies Michael!) who was incredibly patient. I had a ton of questions, especially regarding the specific types of platinum coins and bars eligible for an IRA, and he walked me through everything without making me feel pressured. The fees were transparent, which I appreciate. No hidden surprises after the fact, which has been my experience with some other financial groups over the decades. The physical metals were shipped directly to the Delaware Depository, which they arranged, and I got all the confirmation pretty quickly.
My biggest thing with an investment like this is peace of mind. With all the economic uncertainty, especially coming out of the pandemic and all the wildness going on globally, seeing that platinum holding its own (and then some) has been a huge relief. I’ve always viewed precious metals as a hedge, not a get-rich-quick scheme, and Augusta has helped me maintain that perspective. It’s not about seeing massive gains every quarter, it’s about preserving purchasing power long-term, and so far, they’ve delivered on facilitating that for my Platinum IRA.
Anyone else have experience with Augusta for their Platinum IRAs? What are your thoughts on their customer service or how they’ve handled your account? I'm always curious to hear other folks' insights, especially when it comes to the long game.
